This simple recipe brings out the best in instant ramen with just a few fresh additions. In Japanese home kitchens, ingredients like cabbage, green onion, and a light kelp (kombu) broth are often used to enhance both flavor and aroma. A touch of white pepper adds subtle heat and complexity. With Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu as the base, this quick and easy upgrade delivers a rich, satisfying bowl that feels homemade—perfect for any day of the week.

 

Ingredients:

 

  • 1 pack Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu
  • 1/8 cabbage, chopped
  • 1/2 green onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small sheet dried kelp (kombu)
  • 550ml water
  • White pepper, to taste
  • Toppings (optional): marinated soft-boiled egg, menma (bamboo shoots), char siu pork


Directions

 

 

STEP 1

Cut cabbage into small chunks and slice green onions.

 

 

STEP 2

In a pot, add 550ml water and kombu. Slowly heat and remove the kombu right before boiling.

 

 

STEP 3

Add the noodles and cook according to the package.

 

 

STEP 4

Once the noodles loosen, add the cabbage and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes.

 

 

STEP 5

Add the seasoning packet into a serving bowl.

 

 

STEP 6

Pour in the noodles, cabbage, and soup. Gently mix.

 

 

STEP 7

Sprinkle with white pepper.

 

 

STEP 8

Top with green onion, marinated egg, menma, or anything else you love.
